Continuation

As of now I only have three characters Annie, Emma, and Maggie and I was thinking of doing the other three today as well:

Charlie

Charlie is an athletic and sporty 5'5 guy, even though he is not extremely tall he still manages to be the captain of the soccer team and loves outdoor activities so much. He has dark features such as dark hair, thick dark eyebrows, dark eyes, but he's very attractive and has this unbothered attitude that makes girls want him even more.

I was thinking of creating another character for the story but then I thought it was going to be a lot of people, so I realized that if I wanted to include a new character I would have to find the connection each character has with each other to see if a new one was needed or if it was just me wanting to use all of my close friends for my film.

Charlie and Emma have been best friends since forever. Emma and Maggie have been best friends since they were young. Charlie, Emma, and Maggie were the three of them best friends. Then Emma met Annie and became super close with her and she drifted a little bit from Maggie since she was stuck in a toxic relationship and drifted from both her and Charlie. Annie and Emma are now super close Maggie, and Maggie started liking Charlie.

Writing that simple summary I feel like I am missing a character. But I don't know what kind of character I am missing like a funny one, or another girl for the girl friend group. I'll have an answer tomorrow...

Digging into horror...

Hey, I am back! I did tell you guys I was going to write soon enough.

In the last post, I updated you guys regarding my initial plans. I agreed with myself and we decided to stick with horror just to spice things up a little bit. Basically, my idea is to use a group of teenagers who go camping and there's an assassin in the woods. As for now, I have in my mind either a group of five girls or three girls and two guys. For my cast I am thinking of:

Annie

Annie is that friend who everyone loves, who lights up a room with her radiant energy. She has dark hair and dark eyes, there's nothing exciting about her physical appearance but her personality is what attracts people to her. During this film she's part of the group of teenagers who go camping, she knows a lot about camping because she used to camp with her dad when she was younger. She also plays soccer so she's fast which will come in handy later on.

Emma

Emma or how people call her 'Em'. She has a very strong personality, she likes things done her way, but she's sweet and kind but you don't want to cross her. Emma is best friends with Maggie since they were little and had just met Annie not long ago. Her and Charlie have been super close friends since elementary school also but they have drifted a lot since high school started and Emma got a boyfriend who was jealous of their frienship.

Maggie

Maggie has just gotten out of a toxic relationship, she stopped talking to her friends because of her toxic boyfriend, but she's been best friends with Emma since they were five so they invited her to their trip because she was sad and Emma wanted to distract her from her misery for at least one weekend. Maggie has hazel eyes and a soft brunette color in her hair. She is super feminine and doesn't like any activities outdoor but she also has a crush on Charlie and Charlie loves outdoor activities so she hopped in.

This is all I have in mind right now, my creativeness is off now I just got off work and I am exhausted. I will update you guys tomorrow when my brain is alive again.

Love you all!

The beginning of the end...

The process for the final project for the class has begun. I am so excited to be working on this film production by myself since I have total control of every detail and creative decision. I know it's going to be hard since it is a big project and there's a lot to do, but I am beyond excited.

As of right now, I have just been brainstorming ideas. What I have in mind is a horror-thriller since it's the genre that intrigues me the most and the one I find more fascinating. I have done previous research about this genre that I am going to link down below:

https://jimenezpavone.blogspot.com/2021/11/media-studies-portfolio.html

I am thinking of maybe doing either a story about a possessed doll from a girl's childhood that starts hunting her. Or I also liked the idea of doing the story of a girl whose friends start disappearing as she dreams about them. I am still brainstorming ideas since I need to find a cool location, and start thinking about what can I do with what I have.

My next step is plan both ideas and do a step by step walk through of what I have in my mind and then see which one I like better, and which one I think will turnout better. I am excited to start all the planning and I will be posting behind the scenes when we start filming, and I will also be updating you guys in the planning process. Lastly, I am going to leave my phone number below so you guys can send me any ideas you guys may have, things I should include, who I should cast, etc.

My phone number: (754)248-1263 馃榿

Peace out, talk to you guys soon!

Music Marketing Project Reflection

What could've gone better...

The time has come when the music marketing project has come to an end. During this whole process I learned a lot of important features that I will apply for the rest of my life, and some I will not apply. While I like working individually because I have full creative freedom it was exciting to work with new people. This project has helped me so much to grow as a future marketing manager since I learned a lot about different marketing strategies when doing the research for our artists and music video.

The process our team decided to follow was to first create a group chat will all the members so we could communicate efficiently when we were not together in person. Then each class we would divide our tasks and each member would do what they needed to do individually however if we had any questions we would talk to each other. Also, we decided to brainstorm in class about what marketing strategies to use and which ones wouldn't work with our goals and ideas.

When the time to record arrived we decided that my house would be the best since my room has a view of the streets and we wanted to incorporate a shot of a couple walking down the street. Gabriel as our artist was the main actor, Sami and myself were extras and helped with lighting, setting, composition, etc, and Nicole recorded and edited the video.

When we were doing the presentation we divided each section into each member. I was in charge of merch and the final statements. Here's where I could've done so much more, even though I did my research and knew what I had to say, I could've prepared so much more since I studied the night before and the next morning I just forgot everything and had to improvise. During this whole process, I learned about compromise and stage fright, I now know I don't want ever to feel the way I felt when I was presenting: unprepared.

Some positive things I learned from this process were how to manage lighting with a camera, also how to record with a professional camera, since there were some shots I had to record. These aspects will be extremely helpful when developing my Cambridge portfolio. Also, I learned a lot about marketing strategies and different ways of advertising that will be helpful someday. Overall, what I learned the most was to be prepared and not leave everything for the last minute.

Music Marketing Project

Having to create a music video requires a lot of research regarding the artist, style, the genre of music, etc. Having to do it all alone would have been a lot harder, however during this project I have a group of four members which are Nicole Borman, Sami Valad, and Gabe Rivera. We have been working as a team throughout these past few weeks in order to make this music video and marketing campaign a success.

We are in charge of creating a music video for an R&B song called  ‘If I ever fall in love again’. We decided that the key to having effective communication was to not only talk in class but to create a group chat on WhatsApp where we could send each other important information. For example, there was one day when I was absent and I communicated to my teammates the day before that I would not be present in class, later on, I asked them what they did in class in order to catch up with the work.

In order to have the most accurate R&B music video, we decided to do as much research as we can. Watching R&B videos helped us a lot as a group to gain inspiration for our own music video. Also, we did research on some of the most famous R&B artists such as Kehlani, Foushee, and Giveon, analyzing their marketing strategies. And then we concluded as a group that the best decision would be to follow a dark setting for the music video, with slow clips, and not as aggressive shots since most of the music videos we watched if not all of them were super dark and slow.

Going a little bit more specific with our music video, we analyzed the lyrics at least ten times each time we reunited in order to create an accurate music video that relates to the song that’s being played in the background. I don’t want to spoil anyone but it’s going to be a cliche romantic video clip, it’s going to be amazing. I’m excited for our viewers to listen to the song and to watch the video clip.

Media Studies Portfolio

 Horror

Horror films are all about giving viewers an experience hence elements such as tone, texture, and mood are key in order to make a good horror movie; unlike other genres that rely more on elements such as dialogue and plot twists. Horror movies are exciting therefore its target market is usually teenagers and young adults between the ages of 15 and 25 since they enjoy thrills, and they are mostly males.

Content-wise horror movies encircle common fears therefore they are typically about nightmares, aliens, death, fear of the unknown, vulnerability, and loss of identity. They usually incorporate suspense and surprise elements that will frighten the audience. In order to create the horror effect filmmakers use certain angles to create an unsettling feeling for the viewer.  Usually, the lighting is dark with a lot of shadows creating a sense of tension between the audience. Furthermore, the sound used such as high pitches generates an alarm within the viewers. Elements such as mise-en-scene, sound, editing, and cinematography influence the viewers for a more engaged audience. For example, the mise-en-scene is usually dark, in rural and deserted places that are usually abandoned or isolated. Props include weapons such as knives, axes, and chainsaws as well as supernatural features such as castles, graveyards, and haunted houses. This creates mystery and suspicion around the film. The colours tend to be blacks, reds, and brown and these connote the possible danger, blood, or evilness.

The cinematography includes different shot types; many horrors use close-ups to emphasize a character's scared emotions or extreme wide shots to create isolation and distance from a character. Horror uses unique and unusual angles to create confusion and an unsettling feel with the viewer. The lighting tends to be dark, underexposed with lots of shadows, making the audience feel tense and on edge.

Furthermore, the use of sound, such as a high pitch key, creates a sense of alarm with the audience. There is also an emphasis on footsteps, doors creaking, and animal noises, making the audience feel as though they don't know what is around the corner. Finally, editing is horror often tends to have a fast pace and many cuts to make the audience feel distressed, uneasy and builds dramatic tension for perhaps a jump scare.

Horror movies such as The Blair Witch used posters of missing people and posted them on college campuses, created a website that detailed the urban legend of a witch, interviewed false victim families, and fed false information into threads on popular forums using the strategy of trying to make it look as real and relatable as possible. The key to marketing horror movies is to hype up the release as much as possible. Also, a good idea is through word of mouth, get a few influencers to talk about the movie on their social media, and give them the merch of the movie so they can do like a giveaway so their audience interacts with your film.

Examples of horror movies:

1. 'Carrie' (1976)

Carrie, the 1976 horror classic by director Brian De Palma (ScarfaceDressed To KillThe Untouchables). Based on the debut novel of horror maestro Stephen King, Carrie is a coming-of-age story gone horribly wrong. Sissy Spacek stars as Carrie White, a young, abused teenager with telekinetic powers, who is picked on by nearly everyone at her school. Her powers are awoken by a series of humiliating events, and when the psychological torture goes too far. As previously mentioned, what makes a horror movie a horror movie is provoking fear. In this movie, Carrie takes revenge on her classmates in the worst possible way. The subsequent "prom scene" is one of the most iconic scenes in movie history—tasteless, horrifying, and vicariously thrilling, all at the same time.

That the film has lost none of its emotional power in the four decades since its debut is impressive; its themes and cruel high school setting will always resonate. That the filmmakers produced such a fine film on a $1.8 million budget is even more impressive; it's true that necessity is the mother of invention. King's novel tells Carrie's story in retrospect. It's comprised of multiple "found footage" documents: interview transcripts with the survivors of prom night, newspaper clippings, magazine excerpts, letters, and more. The screenwriter, Lawrence D. Cohen, abandoned this in favor of a more linear, narrative approach.

2. 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre' (1974)

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is one of the most prominent franchises in horror history. However, it's also one of the weirdest and wackiest. Confusing timelines, an ever-changing Leatherface, retcons galore, and even different cinematic styles per film have made each of the eight movies completely different.

It's also created eight very different Leatherface. From different looks, different personalities, and even different actors portraying the famous horror villain. From his various masks to his peculiar behaviors, some films portrayed Leatherface as horrifying, others as odd, and a few made him seem downright silly.

Gritty, grainy, raw, and realistic, the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre was so terrifying because there was a sense of dread and isolation in every shot.

3. 'IT' (2017)

4. 'Psycho' (1960)

5. 'Us' (2019)

6. 'Rosemary's baby' (1968)
7. 'Get Out' (2017)
